A 'don't move' improve adage will predominantly remain.

Is Green the new grey?

Grey has been huge over the last few years & still continues to have a place in 2021, however the new colours of the year will be Greens & Blues.

 

With it's calming qualities  for creating contented homes, deep lush greens are a step closer to surrounding ourselves with nature.

Think of olive greens, earthy colours will further enhance green tones.

Greens can be classy, timeless, elegant, calm & uplifting, maybe even more important to condider during these unprecedented times.

Beiges will continue to be popular, warmer greyer beiges, with a hint more softness.

Example; ‘Elephants Breath’ by Farrow & Ball.

Golden mustardy shades, Greens & Coral pinks, dark rust to deep chocolate browns will be winners in 2021.

The overall look for the year continues from 2021, of understated luxury, creating beauty, calmness, with imperfection.

Colour palette for 2021 will reflect this sense of richness & luxury with sensuous jewel tones.

Ruby reds, emerald greens, Golden mustards, sapphire blues will feature heavily.

Use these colours with backdrops of deeper Matt blues, greys & even natural blacks, for a dramatic look.

Soften  the look with muted hues, like lavender & lilac.

After the popularity of Rose gold, its on its way out, making way for mixing metals such as brass, gold & copper, creating a warm feel in the home.

it looks great with rough timbers & brickwork.

Velvet is the fabric choice, creating more drama & a more luxurious feel.

For example a statement sofa or chair, rather than the odd scatter cushion.

Injecting large groupings of plants into your home, turning them into a feature.

Oversized artwork continues to be the biggest interior design trend of 2021. 

This will take over from gallery walls, which can tend to look too cluttered for current tastes.

Invest in original artwork & oversized photographic prints

Finally at the end of the day, when we retire to the bedroom, will be to create havens of calm & tranquility, minamalistic, for an escape from our increasingly technological lives.

Use contrasting textures to maintain interest & invest on good storage solutions so it flows with the balance of the room, fitted units always work best, so you can hide the clutter away.

My final thoughts;

At the end of the day, decorating interiors is not all about the latest trends, style guides & following rules.

Yes! there will always be a certain look that captures our imagination, sweeping into our homes in waves, before retreating & making way for the next batch.

Its more about creating a home you will feel comfortable & relaxed in, a home that is personal to you

Choose your favourite accent colour from orange, tangerine, reds & bright greens, or for a more toned down scheme use deep purple or blues.

Warm metallics are popular, particularly golds, brass & copper, though not to be over used, more as statement pieces & introduced into fabrics.
